I searched and came up !~, given that it's not case-sensitive, but I can't seem to figure out all the brackets and slashes, et al....total regular expression rookie who has cut-and-pasted the others used in my forms (valid email format, valid URL, etc).

I have a drop-down form that I want to be required, so I added a "-Select Class-" field and set it as the default, thereby requiring the user to make the change before the data are passed. Therefore, I am trying to write the regular expression that simply says the field cannot equal -Select Class-.

Between the parentheticals, the brackets, and the slashes/dot/asterisks, I am starting to think writing these is an ancient Chinese art form.  ;)

Hi John,

In Regular expression terminology what you are looking for is referred to as a "negative lookahead"

Here is the expression:

(?!-Select Class-)
