What I suggested above seemed to work .  I'm not seeing this problem anymore.

I am seeing this problem. I have only tried version 4.0.2, but I have cleared the cache, turned caching off and disabled the scheduler. What I don't understand is that it seems to be totally inconsistent. The host can do anything, I created a subscriber account for myself and can change my password and other details, yet all the other accounts I have created and tested cannot even change their passwords. Is there a way of debugging what is going on?

I can remote desktop into my server and login, but I cannot login from the internet. When I try to login from the internet, if I type the wrong password then it fails, if I type the correct password, it returns to the page and I am not logged in at all -- no message of bad password. Is this related to the "WebForm_PostBackOptions is undefined" bug you guys are finding? (n00b).

Is the content of what is being cached the problem? Could this be why the results are so inconsistent between posting users?

I have dug a little further and can easily reproduce the problem with a fresh install of DNN 4.0.2. This is the case with a single machine running XP Pro/MSDE or two machines running server 2003 and server 2003/SQL 2000.

  1. Install DNN 4.0.2
  2. Create a new child portal
  3. Create a new user account in the new child portal
  4. Log into child portal as new user.
  5. Try to change password.

If you want to succeed in changing the password (or doing anything else), then create a user in the parent portal with the same username/password. The child portal account then works properly.
