Robirt, do you think you could post or send me the files you used to install DotNetNuke successfully (without any sensitive data ofcourse)
Thank you

Razzy, I downloaded the Dnn 4.0.3 Install files that you can download from here, and extracted the contents of that to the root of my Godaddy account using CuteFTP (the trial version).

Then just changed the connection strings in the release.config file to match my DB info, and renamed the file to web.config and uploaded the new copy.

Michelle, i'm not sure about your issue of the files uploading to a folder within the root, I've used Filezilla for other websites and I haven't ever had it do that. As basic as this sounds you aren't uploading just the folder are you? Cause you should open the folder to see the contents select all the files within, then upload to the root of your account. If that's what you are doing then I cant think of any reason why it would do that unless it is something that godaddy is causing to happen because you have the value add installed. I'm not real sure on your issue.

i'm sure i'm missing something really simple, but i ftped all my files onto my server (had to do it one by one because i kept timing out), set up the sql database, modded the release.config file and then changed it to web.config and then refreshed my website, but nothing happened.  i have no idea what step i missed or what is going on, but it is kinda frustrating.  any ideas what i might have done wrong?  was i supposed to ftp all these files into a dnn folder?  right now they are just on the /username root.

i'm really confused, i need a much more detailed walk through i guess.  i think what is on northernstar is probably very good for someone with some experience, but i'm definitely brand new to this.

Hello Folks,

There is currently a problem with Go Daddy's internal security permissions.  Asp.Net 2.0 is currently unable to create folders within the hosting environment.  As far as I can tell this problem is limited to Go Daddy.  If you are trying to install on a different hoster please specify so.

What does this problem mean.  When the DotNetNuke installer runs it looks for the portal folder (generally "0" on new installs) within the Portals (notice the plural of the second folder).  If this folder already exists it deletes and then re-creates it.  Unfortunately an security error is thrown when it goes to do the creation of the folder.  This causes the install to fail.

I am testing a workaround tonight to help get people up and running until I can create a long term solution in the event that Go Daddy does not correct this issue.

Hey,

Installed DNN 3.2 (Actually I did install 4.0 but had too much trouble) on goDaddy.  Got my virtual directories set up per Hosting Manager.  I had some errors but worked through those.

Now, I'm baffled by this error:  Can anyone help?  I installed in the root directory...  (Problem with doing that?)

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Access to the path "d:\hosting\mikenangie\web.config" is denied.Access to the path "d:\hosting\mikenangie\SiteUrls.config" is denied.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Enable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
- the {Server}\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
- the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website
