Well I decided to delete my site (My first DNN install ever was on Sunday 7/2/06) and install it on the root. Drumroll please...........................................................IT WORKED.
I had one hang up but I found stephen_gryphon's post on page 10 about recopying your web.config file and SitesURL and it worked.
After you run it once and it fails, you go back and copy and paste the web_.config from the site/config/backup1234 (remove the underscore) and place it in the root.
You do the same for the SitesURL found in the site/config folder.  It places in the values that it needs so it doesn't have to write those files. Brillant Stephen.
I even placed the extra modules that I wanted and now they are ready to go.
I have one question though, What does everyone do with the install folder when it is done?
I have read to delete it or to set virtual folder permissions or to rename it, then rename it back to install if you need it.
Any thoughts?

bb835t8,

I wanted to apologize for taking so long to getting back to you. I ran off to Florida for a few weeks. Anyhow, I was able to document and test what I did to get a successful install. I have it posted on the site I created in the article. You can find the link here....

http://www.virtual-essentials.com/DotNetNuke/tabid/73/Default.aspx

The site is brand new, has not been skinned at all and this is really the only information available. But, I hope you find it useful. Let me know what you think and what issues you experience as a result of the article.

I cant express my gratitude enough for such a sharing community.

Ciao!

Michael,

I want to thank you and all of the others here for all of their hardwork and dedication to getting this thing to work.

I would greatly appreciate your help with a problem I am having with my DNN 4.0.3

I have successfully installed DNN 4.0.3, but when I pull up my page it tells me that an error has occurred in each pane and it looks like no modules were installed.  When I first installed DNN, I had infact not installed any modules, So, I did a fresh install and made sure to put the module files in the module folder in the install folder.  I installed DNN and saw the modules load only to get the same exact thing my portal is setup, but un each pane it tells me that an error has occured.  ill post a screenshot so you can see what i mean... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like you don't have the correct DB connection string in your web.config.

If you haven't already, you'll need to copy the release.config to a new file web.config, and edit the connection strings.
