Im so very lost.
I have followed 3 different tutorial's trying to install DNN on godaddy. (4.3.4) I have all permissions set according to northenstarsoultions's website. I have the connection string setup for my database correctly. I am getting the error on line 42 of the web.config file, for the machine key. (As posted earlier in this thread) Although I do not understand the soultion for this problem? I have tried both the Install and Source files, both with the same error.
And from personal experience with godaddy, they're a horrible company to work with. (Among 40 other issues, literally), I asked them to install 'THEIR free software' of DNN to my website, since i was unable to get it to work. They told me it was my fault it wasnt working and they dont provide support for third party software, that THEY provide. And incase you missed it, Godaddy is a horrible company. However they do provide the most in terms of 'product/service' for the least. Get what ya pay for I guess...
Archaniz,
I've done a non-root install of 4.3.5, instructions can be found HERE.
Some of the critical information I have gathered came from NorthernStarSolutions and they offer an install service. That is always an option.
My experience with godaddy has been positive. A decent registar, a decent host. The limitations are known, it's a website hosting, not virtual server, so for $7/month I can play around with things. If I want to bump up to $50/month I can get a virtual server which will allow me a lot more freedom.
The thing to remember, in my less than humble opinion, is that the tech support at GoDaddy, like hundreds of other companies, are hourly folks following a script. they are not normally knowlegable on anything outside of that script. The Value Application install of DNN is scripted and static. It's hard to mess up the install, though you can screw up things during configuration, I promise you that, as I have done it.
