Hello, I'm trying to move my install of DNN from the root of my hosting provider to a subfolder/subdirectory. I didn't change anything in DNN other than do the Install/install.aspx automatic install script before moving it.

1.) What path(s) do I need to change in which files? Can I leave my database as is, or will that need to be recreated?

2.) If I want to use the DNN files already there, how can I wipe the configuration to default state so that I may run the install.aspx or InstallWizard.aspx again?

Thanks!

If you are on a hosting provider with a default installation it should be fairly easy.

Before the move add in a new portal alias for the new file path

Move the files

And you should be set.

I'm not sure what you mean by that (is it a DNN setting?).

Any ways, my hosting provider (CrystalTech) adamantly refuses to support me with DNN in a subfolder. You mention it's possible, but others mention its problematic. So that leaves me utterly confused on which is the correct statement. Regardless, thanks for your help. I assume since you help with documentation, so I would be inclined to trust your wisdom in this area.

Anyways, DNN has been such a headache for me, including what is supposed to be a simple process of installation. I can't really install DNN by myself, because I keep getting timeouts (resource pool limit errors) when installing the database side of DNN with my hosting provider. I'm sure part of this is my hosting provider's problem with their limiting of connections and latency in connecting to their MS-SQL Server 2005. Still, for a CMS that is supposed to be one of the most widely supported in a shared-hosting environment, it seems odd that DNN has issues with this.

I'm going to switch to another CMS that isn't so riddled with obstacles like this. I'm having my hosting provider switch my account to a server with full-trust so that I can install another CMS and play with it. DNN is probably one of the few ASP.NET/MS-SQL CMS packages out there that is supposed to work well in medium-trust environments (custom trust levels). Unfortunately, everything else I've experienced is a buggy nightmare.
