Listen, I had sooo many problems with GoDaddy, I decided I needed to give it up. Here is what I did.

I opened an account with webhostforasp.net.

Then I created a backup of my database.

I then copied the entire dnn file system over to webhostforasp.net directory.

I uploaded the database .bak file to the rootdirectory.

webhostforasp.net then installed my website under a temporay domain so I could check it out.

I find their service much better than godaddy, and I have access to the root directory.

I think they guarrantee your satisfaction for 45 days.

I just had it with GoDaddy. My website were too important to leave it on a Godaddy server.

My recommendation. . . get rid of GoDaddy and get to a hosting company that specializes in DNN.

just my two pennies. ( I am not advertising webhostforasp.net, it is just the hosting company I use and like.)

If God does not live in Colorado, I bet he visits there a lot!!

Hello,

In part inspired by your post in part because my patience ran out with GoDaddy I decided to switch also.  My choice of a new hosting provider is Re-Invent - I found the price and the offer suitable for what I needed.

Now my questions are mostly about the technical details of your switch.  You mention that you used a .BAK file - my new hosting company says they can't restore a database based from  .BAK file -  as ".bak are intended for restoration on the server they were backed up on".  Is that right, or was I speaking to inexperienced customer rep?  Clearly my knowledge in that field is very limited. I've been able to convince GoDaddy to suppy me with a .sql copy of my database, can that be used?

Next question - did you ask your new hosting company to install the same version of DNN as the one you were using with GoDaddy?  If not do you know if  the files from DNN 4.3.4 will work on .4.5.x? And can a database used with 4.3.4 be used with 4.5.x?

And does anyone know if there is any "official" documentation about migrating from one hosting to another?  Many thanks!
