Wow - I completely overlooked that point! You're right - for the SEO benefit of a direct banner it would need to remain static on that page, and not be in rotation (unless you showed all ads on a page- I guess Google would not worry if the position order of the link changed now and again, but you never know with Mr G ;)

Hmmm - I guess this needs a little more thought - It think it would still be a useful requirement for the core module (depending on how you place the ads) as it is a pain adding HTML boxes everywhere and managing Vendors and ads manually.

I agree, it would be nice if you just had a text field to define the complete html of the banner however you wanted it.

BTW, If you are interested in a complete banner manager that can be easily integrated with your site you may be interested in Absolute Banner Manager from Xigla.

I agree this is an important topic as it goes to core of running a site for many people: earning income. The back links are very important to sites with lower impressions since their CMP level alone wouldn't be worth the time for advertisers.

While PB would get the job done, it wouldn't work for any sites really looking to earn money. You have to have schedules and statistics to make any ground.

My search on the DNN banner manager netted very little useful information.  It appears it is a placeholder for the idea of advertising but a commercial module is required for serious sites. I.e. issues with script ads and flash (which I load by script using the clickTAG variable. More info here: http://www.adobe.com/resources/richmedia/tracking/designers_guide/

For strong back link performance, I would be to set up the vendors to certain exclusive zones.  When they expire, switch back to Google as a default. Each zone would be a topic of interest so you could selling the ads for more since the pages are topical.

That is the theory. however, I have not had the chance to set this up. It so happen I need to so…

  1. Have you used a banner manager to achieve your goals?
  2. What tricks, if any, did you use?

I'm not from a coding background, could you explain how Xigla software can be easily integrated in DNN?

The nice thing about banner management is that you don't have to do it in DNN. (Sorry DNN)  You just need to insert the javascript that the banner management software gives you into the DNN Banner.  Just like when you are inserting adsense.  The  PHP/MYSQL world has some great solutions for this.  There are systems that automates the entire process from the user adding the banner and paying you through say paypal, to actually serving and tracking the banner.  Many of them also make a nice "Media Kit" lising all your zones and their prices.  A few popular ones are:

openads.org
formfields.com (adman)  - I have use this with DNN before.
revsense.com

Too many to list!

Just my opinion, but if PokerDIY is as popular as it seems, I would go with an external solution like John has suggested.

Thanks,
Mike
