I installed DNN 4.5.5 on my Win XP Pro box and setup a default portal by following the instructions on Mitchell Sellers website at http://www.mitchelsellers.com/Blogs/tabid/54/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/119/Installing-DotNetNuke-455-Locally.aspx . With some minor tweaks suggested in the comments it worked beautifully and opened up fine.

I setup yet another install of DNN 4.5.5 using exactly the same instructions as above on the same machine but different DB and different IIS virtual directory. The install succeeded but when trying to open the portal, IE keeps giving me a HTTP 403 Forbidden error. I tried browsing to other pages and images within the same directory from IE and those open up fine. The DB is installed and so are the tables.

I also changed the web.config to change auth cookie names, double checked permissions in IIS and on the DNN folders and ensured Default.aspx was in the list of default pages in IIS.

What could I be missing? Can multiple installs of DNN exist on the same box? Any ideas to troubleshoot are welcome

Thanks

Raj

if permissions are correctly, make sure that you added default.aspx as default document in IIS settings for your virt. directory.

Thanks leupold, I have already verified that it is.

Another thing - I installed mozzilla firefox today and navigated to that same site - http://localhost/dnntest455 and it redirected me to http://localhost/dnntest455/install/. Does that mean anything? IE constantly gives me the HTTP 403 forbidden error. To be safe I unset the IIS and folder permissions and set them back again, still no dice.

Anything else I should be looking at or tracing? Should I modify any web.config settings or cross check any? This one really has me stumped.

Regards

Raj

it must be an issue of IIS / file permission settings, atm I have no other idea.

I was having this issue as well. Check your value in the HTTPAlias value in the PortalAlias Table. Mine was set automatically to myexamplesite.com\install. Once I removed the \install portion the site redirected correctly. Here is another post that explains it in more detail.
