Just got a bit of a shock... in the middle of work, our peak time and expecting we were just about to do a substantial amount of online business... and BANG.

Crystaltech (our host) disabled our database... so everything went down.

Although that in itself really gets to me, as I could be losing needed income as I write this, I can't believe they gave me no notice whatsoever.

Apparently the problem is with "Forum_StatisticsGet" overloading the shared SQL server. Is there any reason this might be? It is not a highly used forum, but I don't know enough about SQL, DNN & programming to know why.  I am presuming turning off the Forum Stats feature would stop this?

Ok... my friends at CrystalTech are really starting to t*ck me off.

I know it may not be their fault, but the way it is being handled and what it might be costing me right now (yesterday, tomorrow... fine.) is getting to me.

Is there a way the "Forum_StatisticsGet" can be disabled without access to the database?  I only know how possibly from the forum module, and maybe the Scheduler...

They are syaign they won't enable the database until after this is disabled but I've no idea what I can possibly do.

Well they've enabled the database again...

But I have threats of it being removed if I don't get it sorted... the coder we use for this (Almaz if anyone knows him) is off the radar.

I have disabled everything in the Scheduler. Still get these errors constantly... every couple of minutes

I have had similar error messages before & thankfully changing the ModuleSettings table (from memory) for SupportedFeatures from -1 to 0 sorted it (thanks Mitchel Sellers!)... but apart from that I really see lots of people with these PortalID: -1 errors and little help so I am really exhausted on this one. Anyone any clues to stop this schedule thing even happening please let me know otherwise I am concerned it is going to cripple us very quickly.

David,

I'm afraid I'm on the new beta version of the forum, so may not be able to help you directly with that item. However, I'm pretty sure there is a setting in the forum admin area to disable statistics. The stats should only run when someone accesses the forum, it isn't run from the schedule are far as I am aware. And then it should be cached for a while. I think the stting is under General Settings, or there may be an Statistics item at the top level - Chris has moved things in the new version.

If you want to stop the schedule running, rather than disabling individual items - go to Host/Schedule then select Schedule Status from the module menu, then click Stop.

To completely disable the schedule, go to Host/Host Settings, then in Advanced/Other Settings change Scheduler Mode to Disabled. Then click update. It is probably then worth clicking Restart Application.

Cheers
Roger

OK, I remembered I had an old Virtual PC image lying around with an out of date copy of my site on....

In Forum Administration, Statistics & Rankings, Statistics, Enable Statistics - Untick.
