Nope...still trying to figure it out...There are a bunch of people having the same problems...But since it is not happening to more people I guess we are on our own.

I have to fix a bug in the URLRewrite HTTPModule today (there is some kind of infinate loop going on), but if I have a chance I will try one last thing.

Otherwise, I got 4.5.5 to successfully install, so I guess that is the one I will be upgrading to.

I bet it is something very obvious and very stupid...but I have tried everythign that has been suggested plus a lot of stuff that I could think of.

Let me know if you come up with anythign...

I am constantly "bumping" this thread...one of these times someone will come up with the solution...

Sorry, some issues are very specific to a special situation and difficult to guess if you are not sitting in front of the server with all options to investigate, test, ...

I'm having the same problem ("Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type
"), and I've tried every suggestion on this thread without success. I'll keep checking back.

Looking at the web server logs, I see the following exception occured during the upgrade process (yes, NETWORK SERVICE  has full rights on the application directory). Does this make sense to anyone, or lead to some clarity? I am really stuck in the water here: luckily this site is not important, but I have nine others to upgrade that are, and I am just baffled.

Process information:
    Process ID: 6028
    Process name: w3wp.exe
    Account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE

Exception information:
    Exception type: TypeInitializationException
Exception message: The type initializer for 'DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider' threw an exception.

I have the EXACT same problem, i have a feeling it is related to the new LiveID authentication procedure as i got an error as i was installing DNN for the LiveID install. No matter how many times i try to install it. It fails.

Im really stuck with 4.6.2 now :(
