Hi all,

All the shared hosting companies I have tried to use will not allow installing DNN in the root folder.  They usually advise users to install in a sub folder and then create a redirect script on the root pointing to the folder were DNN was installed.

Is it then possible to install DNN in a sub folder and still create multiple portals within the DNN installation?  If this is possible, how can it be achieved?

Thanks!

There is nothing different in this situation, other than the fact that you need to remember the virtual directory during all of your operations.  The child portals can still be created, but they will just be another folder deep.  In these situations, the main virtual directory is best named using an acronymn.

However, that is odd and POOR customer service if a web host does not want to allow you to install DNN on the root directory.  I can think of no reason why they would have a good reason to say that.  If they will not respond appropriately to such a simple request, I say dump 'em!  Get a new host.  ;)
