I am about to attempt an  upgrade from 3.0.13 to 4.6.2. Is there anything I should know before attempting this feat? Can I do this with one jump? or do I need to upgrade to 4.0.0 then install the 4.6.2 build? Or maybe take smaller steps in the upgrade path?

Any love from the community would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

I think a better choice is to go to the latest 3.x first. From there to 4.6

So there is an upgrade path then?

So, I guess I should go from 3.0.13 to 3.3.7. Then 3.3.7 to 4.0.0. Then finally from 4.4.0 to 4.6.2.

Beyond that, this particular install is using a pre-core version of the Authentication module. So I am not sure what to do about it right now... I may need to disable it for the upgrade and then remove it prior to the 4.0.0 upgrade. The custom modules for this thing are all 1.1 based as well, I think that the only good part there is that they are WAP modules. So, I may not have to do anything at all. I will have to see what happens during the upgrades.

Thanks for the input Jan, and let me know what you think about the Authentication mofdule. I am using the one that was eventually added to the core.

The upgrade from 3.0.13 to 3.3.7 seems to have gone well; however, I am still concerned about the custom modules and the authentication module. I had to disable authentication in the web.config in order to perform the install. I am not sure that it is a big deal, I could keep it disabled through the whole process and then reenable it in 4.6.2 (following the new steps) when I am all done. I am curious what the impact will be to version 5  in the future, but its a little ways out right now.

I also need to test everything, over the next week to see what is broken, if anything. So thats my update for now. I will keep those of you who are interested posted as things progress.

I am taking a week off to go to Openforce '07. So this will be my last post for at least a week. 8^)

I am sure I will see some of you in Vegas!

Cheers!
