Based on the error message I'm going to have to suggest you setup a virtual directory in IIS, or make sure that the built in web server is functioning properly.

How do I go about setting that up in IIS?

Hi Teresa,

I am also a newbie to DNN and installed to GoDaddy using their Metropolis product.  I think the replies you have been getting may be a bit more technical than you need, but feel free to ignore me if I am wrong.

I first tried installing DNN to the server myself, but the configuration was a bit too complicated for me to complete and I needed a Web site up pronto.  So I deleted all the files I installed on the server, deleted the database and then created a new one and then did the Godaddy install through Metropolis.  During the install it will ask you for information to set up the Admin and the Host accounts.  I recommend you use the email address you will actually be using and not plan on changing them later (I am having a problem where emails are being sent with the personal account I originally specified .  Even though I have changed the email account in the settings it still shows the personal account as the sender).  A downfall of the GoDaddy installation is that it will not install on the root so to access your portal you will need to go to www.(yourdomainname)/portal (assuming you choose portal as the install directory during the installation).  You will also need to have a redirect on your root to push users into your Portal or create an HTML page with a link to it.

Once the install is complete you access your portal by going to the portal URL and logging in with the admin credentials you specified during the setup.  By default, your site will contain the DNN modules so you will need to delete these modules (although I recommend you keep the links module and permission it to administrators only so you have easy access to DNN materials).  Once you log in with the admin account you can perform the necessary functions to create your site (add pages, modules, etc.)

Hope this helps,

Elizabeth

Great, thanks :) This works much better but there is one problem. After it creates the database and then starts to  install, it gives an error during installation, which is atomatic during godaddy hosting connection. Any ideas why its giving me an error?
