I'm installing DNN 4.07 clean on a laptop.  Everything seemed to install fine but when I click on "Site Settings" or "Host Settings" I get the error below about "Could not load type 'System.Web.UI.IScriptManager'.  I'm running Vista Ultimate and I have .net 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 installed.  Googling has left me short though I did find http://communityserver.org/forums/p/492809/603451.aspx#603451 a reference to a Community Server install having the same issue but unfortunately now fix.

Thanks for any help.

John

After searching the world over, the problem stemmed from my install of Visual Studio 2008 beta 2.  That essentially "rolled back" my version of .net 2.0 and since .net 2.0 is a part of the Vista OS, I couldn't just upgrade it and fix the problem.  One fix was to reinstall Vista (upgrade in Vista terminology) so I did that and after hours of reinstalling, it worked for maybe half a day.   Then somewhere in my applying Windows Updates it quite again.  Then I uninstalled VS 2008 beta 2 and suddenly everything worked again.

So my fix was to uninstall VS 2008 beta 2.  Was the Vista Ultimate reinstall required?...I don't think so but maybe.  I'm not sure if VS 2008 RTM will cause the same problem but I haven't had the nerve to try yet as I have real work to do. :)

I hope this helps someone.

John
