I wonder if there has been any thoughts about developing containers for modules/widgets developed for the Google OpenSocial platform? http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/

Microsoft have not yet responded with any sense of direction for us .NET developers. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2210612,00.asp

I think it would be great if gadgets/widgets developed for the OpenSocial platform could also run within dotnetnuke portals, as well as the plethora of social networking sites like MySpace, Flicker, etc., that have signed up as partners.

I think this is an opportunity that the Dotnetnuke community does not want to lose out on.

It is likely that IBM will develop a container for the OpenSocial platform that will run as a JSR portlet within their Websphere Portal Application Server. This is a link to information about their portlet container for Google Gadgets. OpenSocial API is built on top of Google Gadgets: http://tech.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1296697.php/IBM_releases_Portlet_for_Google_Gadgets

I agree cezjah, DotNetNuke risks falling behind in a critical area here. Social networks have been the driving force behind the largest booming websites. As far as I undrestand the current possible solution even for just a social network on DotNetNuke is Smart-Thinker.com's UserProfile and UserFriends. I don't know if they plan on adopting OpenSocial or the nFriends microformat or anything but their product allows you to set up a DotNetNuke social network at least. And they are open to suggestions.
