This is a real basic site. I moved over the entire folder structure top the new web server and moved the database over to the new database server. I have made the neccesary adjustments in the web.config file to point to the new database. I am not sure what causes this error, but I have check folder permissions and everything seems to be in order.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Did you figure this out, I've got the same error after doing the same thing?

This error relates either directly or indirectly to the MembershipProvider.

I would first have you check to ensure that the DotNetNuke.Provider.AspNetProvider.dll file is in the bin folder.  Then, make sure that the node in your web.config where the MembershipProvider is handled is present and not malformed.  Additionally, check the case of the name, as it is case sensitive.

Finally, if you do not have the Active Directory provider enabled, make sure that node is commented out in the HttpModules section, as well as the assemblies in the bin folder that begin with "DotNetNuke.ADSI" are removed.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried the above with not joy, could it possibly be anything else?

When I got the site from a client to do some updates I needed to add a new login, so I created a database with the same name, added the new login and then did a restore from the clients database, this all worked fine, I did all the updates my end and tested locally - put it all on a test server which again worked fine but when I sent a .bak file and all the dnn files back to the client they keep on getting this error.

 Any other ideas?

Have you verified that web.config is correct, system.web machinekey set properly for target site?
