I am still very unhappy with how the forum module works with the fckeditor.  Inserting pictures does not work, and does not appear to be set up to work with some common file and photo sites.  Couple of quick examples:

http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/RobertrSmith88/?action=view&current=camaro.jpg  Pasted that, just makes a link

Pasted it into the insert image popup, just makes an X

Well, the image inserter does not work with photobucket.

http://www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=34087 Pasted again...

 Into the popup again...

Doesn't like fquick either.  These are both sites for hosting pics, and they list several ways to share the pic.  Fquick (example page http://www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=34087 ) gives you

URL  http://www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=34087

Embed  <a href="http://www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=34087"><img src="http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/632934087.jpg?1175631183" border="0"></a>

Forum Code

This is to make life easy for the user that wants to share a picture.  I copy and paste the Forum Code on MANY forums, and it always drops the picture in.  On the DNN Forum, it just drops a link.  When I drop any of them into the insert image popup, it doesn't work.  The only thing that has worked is taking the embed code and stripping out the src information.  That provides a picture.  Why doesn't the DNN editor work like every other editor out there?  I don't want my users to have to upload their pics to my server (that gets expensive fast), and I can't expect them to disect the code and get it inserted.  This is way harder than it needs to be.  Is there a better method, or is FCKeditor not a great choice for us.  I really want the forum to work as well as LS1tech.com does as far as ease of use. (http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6791708) Is this a problem I cannot overcome?  If the forum is too hard to use, I will not have any users!

Like I mentioned, the only way I have found to use the fquick pictures is to copy and paste the embed code, then stripout the src link information up to the .jpg and paste that as the URL in the Insert Image popup.  That is the only way I can get it to work at all.  Example: (using http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/632934087.jpg)

We were making it to complicated trying to use the codes all the hosting sites use.  Below is the example and instructions I have posted on our forum.  Feel free to steal it....

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Here is how to post hosted pictures on this forum:

1. Go to the Web page that has your photo or drawing. Right click your mouse and select copy (or Ctrl+C).

2. Open a message window in the forum. You can do this by clicking New Post (in the upper right hand corner of your screen), by clicking the word Reply or Quote at the bottom of someone's post, or by clicking Edit at the bottom of one of your own posts.

3. Type your message in the message window.

4. While you are still in the message window, right click your mouse. Select paste (or Ctrl+V). Your photo will appear.

Here is a sample of a picture from an fquick site:

Drivers side (450 pix)

Photos that are too small or too large can be difficult to view. The ideal size is between 300 and 600 pixels wide. Avoid posting many pictures within a single message.

300 pixels:

600 pixels:

How can you post a picture that does not come from a website? If its a picture they have saved on thier pc?

You either have to host the picture for them (allow them to upload to your server), or they need to use a service like photobucket.  Most of those sites are free to use.  Allowing everyone to upload their files to your server can get pretty expensive depending on the number of users you have.  If you do allow them access to a folder on your site, they can use the Insert/Edit button and upload a file in the popup.
