Today, I installed DNN and it runs fine on my local machine via the local VS 2008 development web server. But when I publish it to another location, I get a blank error page. There is a red error icon with no error text. The url shows this:

tabid=36&error=Could+not+find+a+part+of+the+path+'d%3a%5cinetpub%5cwwwroot%5cDNNConcept%5cApp_GlobalResources%5cLocales.xml'.&content=0

It looks like DNN is trying to find the App_GlobalResources directory, but it is not published with a precompiled site.

Thanks, Cathal. So, where do I go from here? I don't see an option in Visual Studio for a non-precompiled site.

you just need to do a build, and then copy the files to the desired location, you don't need to do a deploy

I did try that and I got a page not found error. I've tried installing 3 different packages with pretty much the same result. The last one I did was the DotNetNuke_04.08.01_Install.zip. It was first  extracted to the directory C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNNConceptInstall. Then, I added and gave the ASPNET account (Windows XP) full trust. Next, I opened the website in VS, configured the web.config for my SQL 2005 database and executed on my development machine. It fired right up.

Then, I created a virtual directory (same location) in IIS and tried to run it on my localhost. It failed. Now, I am getting build errors in VS:

Error    102    Could not load the assembly 'DotNetNuke.Authentication.LiveID'. Make sure that it is compiled before accessing the page.    C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNNConceptInstall\DesktopModules\AuthenticationServices\LiveID\Logoff.ascx    1

This also appears on the controls Login.ascx and Settings.ascx. I'm going to try a fresh install and see if that helps.
