Hi Folks,
I try to get DNN 4.02 running on my ISP with MS SQL 2003 Server. I tried several things and reviewed several times the installation guide and also the forum. First I installed it properly on my Local computer and made my changes in design and content and copied then the directory to my root folder. Then I changed the settings in the web.config to match the sql server with the data given from my ISP. The SQL Database I created has the name dotnetnuke.
But I still receive the Runntime error page for my domain. The connection string is as follwed:

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=mysql.synserver.de;Database=dotnetnuke;uid=XXXXXX;pwd=XXXXXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->
        <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=mysql.synserver.de;Database=dotnetnuke;uid=XXXXXX;pwd=XXXXXX;"/>

I also tried it with .\ after server=, but nothing works.
My ISP has no expierience with DNN 4.

Please HELP.
regards
mackensy

You might like to turn the display errors from remote only to *false* while you check.
You might like to check your host has set aspnet2 as the default in the IIS settings - it may have aspnet 1 on there.

Since you're not getting a cannot connect to db error you've not quite made it past the first post.

If your ISP has no experience with DNN4 it might be a little more tricky.

Dear Nina,
thx for your answer. I needed some days , because my ISP had Problems to install the MS SQL DB.
Now he did it and also said, that he set aspnet2 to default.
But I still have the same error. Runtime Error.
I set the customerrors from remoteonly to off, that doesnt change anything! Funny. As I run under MediumTrust, I also added these settings as given in the installation guide and I also change the databaseowner from dbo to the value of the uid. I aslo tried a trusted_connection istead of iud and pwd. Nothing seem to make any differences.

Can you Help me?

You need to set it to run under FULL TRUST - read/write/control

Try that - and let me tell you how I sincerely feel for you since I've been unable to get it working on my Win2k server, but not had problems locally using SQL2000.

*sigh*   I reall do feel for those who have these frustrating struggles.

Have you thought about using DNN 3.2.2?

Try changing the security permissions - It's hard when you can't see the error. Perhaps the hosting company can use their terminal services and log in and tell you the error - or you can turn Custom Errors from remote only to OFF so you can see what it's saying.

Hi Nina,

thx for your expressing your sympathize.

I told them to check te trust level and to check the error via the terminal login. Still waiting for a solution yet from them.

I also changed to Off, but I still have the same runtime error page! That implies to me, that there is still no db connection.

And why do you asked for trying DNN 3.2.2? Is this easier to set up un Win2k Server?
