Hi

I am new to DNN and want to start using it for developing websites for my clients.  I have shared hosting accounts for each client with a hosting provider.

1.  Is there a way to turn on or turn off features of DNN.  For example, all clients want to be able to update the content of their website easily so I won't to provide that to them using DNN.  However, not all clients want or will get a feature such as blogging, or guestbooks, or the ability to download files.  In other words they won't get certain modules.  At the same time, when the client does log into the user area to edit pages, etc., I do not want them to see the different modules that they cannot use.  So if the client does not get the blog feature with his/her site, I don't want him/her to see the blog module.

2.  Is there a way to be the administrator for all client sites using one installation of DNN, while at the same time allow the client to be able to update pages as well as approve other users to be able to assist in content updating or to allow certain users to be able to view certain areas of the site, while the general public cannot?  I want the client to be able to add users to update the content.  Their customers must be able to register and login to view certain private areas of the website, but not to be able to edit page content.  Is there a way to do this while I still maintain administrative status for the website because in most cases, I don't want the clients to be able to change the design or structure of the website.

Any assistance and ideas on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

1. You can set modules to premium, then only the host can enable them on a per portal basis. This is done via the Site Settings area per portal once those modules are set as permium from the module definitions area.

2. As the host, or any Super User, you are an admin on all pages for all sites. What I recommend is creating a content admin role per portal, then give that role edit rights on each module. This avoids page changes but allows module changes. This is on most modules but doesn't work this way on other such as these forums.

Thanks Crispy

I will try this out as soon as I can get my installation to work.

If you can, I have another thread open regarding an error I am receiving when I try to go to my portal after installation.  It would be greatly appreciated if you can take a look at it and see if you have any ideas on how to resolve it.

In a nutshell, the installation seems to complete fine.  I do not see any errors in the installation results.  When I click the link to go to my portal, I get the following error in the browser:

An unhandled error has occurred.

The address bar has the following error:

http://localhost/Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

I've been looking through the forums and cannot find a solution as yet.  If you can provide any assistance, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
