You are able to set the default Home page from the Admin > Site Settings page.  The setting is located in the Advanced Settings section and is called Home Page.

Lorraine,

In another thread, designating a different home page was suggested as a solution to the problem, "This site is currently unavailable. Please check back later."  Another reply was, "Please check your site's event log to determine what the cause of the error is.  Without detailed information it is not possible to propose a solution."

Please excuse my ignorance, but how can I check the site log or change the home page designation unless I can first access the site?

You can check the Windows event log as well Tom, it shows info about the site and errors as well. I'm guessing you're replying about a completly different topic because this person is asking about changing their home page and you're asking about viewing your event log because you site is unavailable. You can check the db as well. I'm sure the home page is saved in a settings table in there which you could update manually. This could get your home page back to its default value to possibly fix your problem.
