Hi,

I am a complete novice to DNN. I have just started with it and I find it very interesting already! I would like to purchase a business theme skin and would like to get some guidance on that. Can someone pls. suggest some good sites from which I can purchase the skin and what are the things that I should look for in a skin apart from its look and feel when I am purchasing it.

Thanks,

rt

I'm no skinning expert but a good place to start is the DotNetNuke Marketplace (Icon at the top of the page) or Snowcovered (http://www.snowcovered.com).

Look at Snowcovered, view skin demos, look for issues with the menus in particular, do they change when the mouse goes over the submenu items, check for consistent layout of everything in Opera, Safari, FF and IE7 and IE6, look for a selection of useful containers including blank ones, view the css and judge it for general tidiness as well as things like multilpe sheet links, check if it has HMTL/XML and well as straight ASCX versions in the package, look for any photoshop or other files required for altering the look, are the Photoshop files pre-sliced and layered, one thing you can't see in demos is where the action menus have been placed and how compete they are. Always ask something through the Snowcovered question function and judge the developer on their response. And above all - learn to look past the decoration images that are placed in the demos. Judge it solely on the fonts, link styles, and actual skin and container pieces, not the pretty pictures and header graphics that you're going to replace or not use.

And... you know there is even a place you can preview and dowload skins for FREE so you get an idea of the variety of styles.

There are over 50 free skins here, including the most popular free skin - http://xdmediablue.dnnskins.com - which has been updated to http://xdnewblue.dnnskins.com -

Most of the people who sell skins, got their start by downloading these free skins and I can also state with 100% confidence, many of these free skins are better than what you'll buy on snowcovered - which, although a great place for volume, is also the 'walmart' of skins and modules.  I buy from there as stock or for clients and am frequently amazed at how some of these things sell, but hey - that's just my opinion.

Fortunately, Robax here does do some of the nicer work, but I suggest you download some of the FREE skins from DNNSKINS.COM and try them out.
