Here's a concept of the image upload control I would like to have in my DNN Core Profile Property Editor.

  Upload a Picture

You can upload a JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG file with a maximum file size of 500kb.
(Do not upload pictures containing celebrities, nudity, artwork or copyrighted images.)

Ajsansone,

there are a few more situations to take into account:

  • if there is already an image uploaded, it would be nice to get a preview displayed
  • if there is already an image, the link shall get replaced
  • (optionally) the existing image file shall be deleted
  • admins might need the option to select an image file, already existing on the server (in portal directory)
  • there shall be an option to resize the image file during upload to a specified maximum and save in same format

Sebastian,
Do you mean that the DNN Module Toolkit's ImageEditorControl is lacking those capabilities?

I think the best solution would be to change the Avatar Control from the DNN Forum Module to a Core DNN Profile Property Control. I have not come across a better or more simpler image upload control then the one included with the DNN Forum Module. The Image Upload Control should reside inside the Core DNN Profile Property Editor and not in the DNN Forum Module. That way all module's can access the user's image including UDT or UserDirectory.

sorry, I haven't had time yet to check out the module toolkit. The user profile has been designed extensible by modules and I expect core modules like forums to move profile data into central user profile in a future version.

Charles and/or Sebastian,

I would like to offer my open source Image Editor Control as the base for creating a Property Editor Control for image upload as it includes image preview, basic enhancement and editing, storage to any of the DNN file systems with permissions respected, auto-resizing and thumbnailing, options for existing file replacement or renaming to a unique name, both filepath and FileID properties, etc. It is a DNN Forge project (www.codeplex.com/imageeditor). A demo may be seen on my website at http://www.wesnetdesigns.com/Projects/ImageEditor/tabid/114/Default.aspx.

The problem: The control has more than 50 customizable options such as image size constraints, force crop to specified aspect ratio, etc. I don't see any way in the various Property Editor Control/Profile classes to store and pass values for these options into the control. The only solution I'm coming up with is to create an xml configuration file much like is done for HTML skin objects.  I would appreciate any suggestions in this area.
