Might want to get a reseller account on a host, or at loeast one that pays referrals.  I personally register the domain and configure everything, but host on commercial servers, but that's mostly because my clients can't add songs to their iPod, let alone register a domain and configure DNS.  I don't care if they already have a registered name and even a paid host, as long as it meets requirements and I get the admin account/password.

If you want to start a hosting company, find investors and do it right.  Find people who know what they're doing in server and network management and pay them well. Find...  NO, better yet, don't do it.  There are enough crappy hosters already and if you're asking how to do it you aren't ready to do it right.

Jeff

Thanks for the smart*** comment, but that's not what i'm looking for. I have my own ideas and plenty of knowledge to run the type of webhosting business I am looking to start up. I am just curious as to how others are doing it. Maybe you should do something else with your time instead of wasting it like you did by posting your idiotic comment!

Sorry I couldn't help you, and please feel free to value my advice at what was paid for it.  That's all it is, free advice, given to a post on a web site.

EDIT:

I just realized, you got mad at my post without realizing what I was telling you.  You asked about starting a DNN hosting business, but I realize that your terminology doesn't match mine.  A hosting business is a place like GoDaddy, or PowerDNN.  You simply want to start a development business, using DNN hosted on someone else's hosting site.  My second paragraph was telling you you're not ready to be GoDaddy.  But that has nothing to do with what you want.  Read my first paragraph and then click NEXT.

Sorry for the miscommunication.

Jeff

Hey Randy,

Give me a call at  402-650-6072  and we can talk.  I have some great ideas for you.

Yeah, just call Tony and see what he has to offer. On just price comparison, they might seem a little high, but they provide really good support.

I am definitely NOT knocking any of the other posters on this forum, because they have all made big contributions to the DNN community and can probably provide some great solutions for you. I just don't have any personal hosting business with them.

I was in a similar situation with about a dozen WH4L accounts and finally bit the bullet to go with a dedicated server. I also decided to go with DotNetPanel as my control panel. That limits PDNN's ability to support me totally, but I have great community support for DNP.

I was exactly in your situation about 2 years ago, so if you want to talk, go to the site in my sig and use the contact form. We can talk on the phone if you would like too.

Hey Tweaked,

Just give me a call when you're ready to chat.  We're in the business of building hosting businesses for our customers and I would love to do that for you too.
