This is my first DNN installation and I am having problems seeing my first Parent Site that I made. This is not the Default hosting site that installs with the product.

I can navigate to the default portal fine. I then created a new parent portal, that seemed to go as planed. Then I selected the link to go to your newly created site and got the good old 404 error.  Is this an IIS problem or DNN?

If you go to Host | Portals and you click on the pencil next to your new parent portal, what is the HTTP Allias for the site?  Is it valid?  Does your web server point to it?   If not, you will need to configure it.

Otherwise you can setup a child portal where it will appear as your currenturl.com/childportalname.  You can always go back and add a domain to the child portal so that it can be accessed via the domain name you want.

thanks for the info, but I still can't get it to work. This is what I have done.

Default Portal is http:\\ServerA-Ipaddress\WDNhosting if I go to this site it work fine. I can login an administer the site. I then created a new parent Site and called it Newsite1, I then followed you direction and place an Allias  "ServerA-Ipaddress\Newsite1".  Did I do this right? I guess I am so new to this basic concept of multi parent portal that I can not tell what’s an IIS issues and what’s DNN issue.

thanks Bill

Bill,

ServerA-Ipaddress\Newsite1 would follow the format of a child portal rather than another parent portal.

Can you confirm that your new portal, most likely with a portalID of 1, has an http alias of ServerA-Ipaddress\Newsite1?

You can do this through Host | Portals | Clicking on your second portal and then scrolling to the bottom of the page.

You can also do this by going to the HttpAlias table in the database and look for the aliases that match the portalID of your new portal.

Just for giggles, and if you are able to, try restarting IIS.  I have seen DNN hold on to info that has been changed and then not reflect the change until I have either restarted the application through the Host Settings page or restarted IIS.
