Hi I have installed the dotnetnuke  using Godaddy I have only one problem I do not like the idea concerning the redirect back to the dotnetnuke folder resulting with the dotnetnuke added to the address bar I have seen other sites that do not show this in their url so I ask is there a workaround for this or is it strictly forbidden, if so I'll can except that.

I don't quite understand what you are asking.  Can you be a bit more specific with your question?

Thanks,

Stuart

Assuming I understand the issue, I may be able to help. Let me first restate the problem.

  1. Becasue you are on a GoDaddy site, and because GoDaddy does not allow your root hosting folder of your shared hosting account to be an application root, you have installed DNN in a sub-folder under root.
  2. So that users get to the right place, you have placed a redirtect file in the root that forwards mydomainname.com to mydomainnam.com/portalfolder
  3. As a result your visitors see mydomainname.com/portalfolder and you would rather they only see mydomainname.com

If I have pegged the issue, here is your work around:

  1. Purchase a "throw away" domain name and let that be the primary hosting account domain
  2. Create your portal folder and set it to be browasable, writable, and application root
  3. Now go into your hosting manager and choose Settings >> Domain Management and click the Add Domain button
  4. Add your intended primary domain and point it to your portal folder

There is a catch, and that has to do with SSL. If you need SSL as far as I know, you are stuck with having the portal folder in the URL, becasue you can not associate your SSL with anything other than your priamry hosting account domain. If you don't need SSL then you should be OK.

As a reseller I have used this with versions up through 4.3.7, and am preparing to do it with 4.8.4.

Best of luck.
