I 'upgraded' my portal on webhost4life from 4.8 to 4.9. I uploaded the DotNetNuke_04.09.00_Upgrade.zip file and unzipped. I ran the install file. I got errors that all of the folders in App_Code were missing. I created new folders. The rest of the process appeared to succeed.

When I went to my portal, no content was there and not my last skin. I had 6 portals/sub portals but looking at the portals folder, all I had was _default, not 0,2,3,4,5,7.  Nothing was in the desktopmodules folder and many dlls were missing from the bin folder, to name a few problems.

I did a partial backup it turns out due to ftp transfer errors. I do know this is my fault.

I am requesting a restore from the host, but why did this happen in the first place?

Neil

Hi Neil,

I do not believe the DotNetNuke_04.09.00_Upgrade.zip package is a correct one unless you had DNN source project running. To upgrade DNN installation you have overwrite existing installation with a regular "install" package.

We have a KB article here https://support.ihostllc.net/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=41 describing standard DNN upgrade process

Since 4.9.0 release last week, we have performed over 40 upgrades. Majority went smoth, we did not expirience any "show stopping" issues with 4.9.0 yet.

I used http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/243/upgrade-to-dnn-490-from-462-or-later.aspx

to upgrade. Why it deleted all of those files, I don't know. I did get the backup from the host and I am almost back up with 4.9. I have had to reinstall modules. I was able to get my other child portals from the backup.

But I sure would like to know what happened for next time. Of course, I now know how to backup my site from the host control panel.

Neil,

subfolders of App_code are created by modules installed, they are never contained or touched by DNN installation. Did you clean out folders by yourself? Do not touch /Portals, /App_GlobalResources, /App_code and /DesktopModules folder, not module dlls in /Bin folder!
