 Hi,

i ve upraded from 3.3.4 to 4.8.4, typed  the following: http://203.209.209.52/dias/Install/install.aspx and the following error appeared

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.08.04
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

Doubled checked the following web config connection strings, i dont seem to find anything wrong with it. I would be very grateful if someone could point to me where i have gone wrong here.  Thanks.

 </configSections>
 <connectionStrings>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
  <add
    name="SiteSqlServer"
    connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"
    providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=hp1041;Database=dnnDiasCom1Au;uid=dnnDiasCom1Au;pwd=D2as;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
 </connectionStrings>
 <appSettings>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
  <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=hp1041;Database=dnnDiasCom1Au;uid=dnnDiasCom1Au;pwd=D2as;"/>
    -->

Desperately in need of help.

Cheers, Nitha

Nitha,

you changes the commented connection strings for SQL Server 2000/2005, make sure, the active connection string is out side a comment ("<!-- .... -->")

Hi SEbastian,

Changed by placing the active connection string outside the ("<!-- .... -->").

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=hp1026;Database=dnnDiasComAu;uid=removeduserid;pwd=removedpassword;"/>
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="DotNetNuke.install.config" />

When i browse to the site, i the following happened.

This site is currently Unavailable

Please check back later

When i browse for the second time, the initial error was displayed

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.08.04

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

I am at loss here, please help.

Thanks.

Cheers, Nitha

Hi Nitha,

There is definately an issue with the connection string, but I think it could be something along the lines of the wrong server name or DB name.  If you'd like, please give me a call at 402-650-6072 and I'll work with you to get your site back online ASAP.

Nitha,

please make sure, there is only one exctive connection string in section ConnectionStrings and same string used in appSettings section, key SiteSQLServer underneath (which also shall not contain more than a single entry).
