Hey there!

I am having trouble installing DNN.  The server is 2003 Server (IIS6), with SQL 2000 Enterprise (SP4).  The web.config file has varied errors when installing.  I have found some inaccuracies between the docco and the actual content of the web.config file.  Does anyone have a step-by-step of what needs to be changed in this file to make it install?

I have tried so many different things to try to fix it that there is no point in posting errors.  I have re-created the virtual directory so any answers to this post will be the only actions performed on the site.

Any help appreciated!

You didn't mention which version of DNN you are trying to install.  But just in general the only thing you really need to change in web.config is the DB connection string.  With DNN 3.2.2 there is one place and in DNN 4.0.2 there are connection strings in two places with some of it commented out in a not really obvious way unless you are looking for it.

Yep, as Paul says... and here are my notes for 402:

Find the connectionStrings and appSettings sections

Comment out or delete the SQL Server 2005 Express sections then uncomment the SQL Server 2000/2005 sections, then set them as in this example:

  <connectionStrings>

    <add

      name="SiteSqlServer"

connectionString="Server=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;Database=dbname;uid=dbusername;pwd=dbpassword;"

      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

    </connectionStrings>

  <appSettings>

    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;Database=dbname;uid=dbusername;pwd=dbpassword;"/>
