Where exactly are you seeing this 25-character limit on the question/answer pair?

Immediately after posting, I realized that you must be seeing the problem on Question/Answer creation and not retreival.  And you are correct that there is a bug, located in admin/Users/User.ascx, where the both the question and answer length are incorrectly limited in the UI layer to 20 characters.  Yikes!

Fortunately, it does not appear that these data are being truncated in the codebehind.  As such, it should be safe to change these values to something larger (on lines 52 and 56).  Remember that your backing store (under AspNetSqlMembershipProvider) insists on a 256/128 character limit!

I will log this as an issue in Gemini (assuming it's not in there already).  Good catch!

Brandon

UPDATE: Work item is located here.  Remember that you'll have to forward-propagate any change across subsequent versions until the bug is corrected.

Brandon,

Yeah, I am really trying to avoid having to modify the core as I don't want to start down the slippery slope of upgrade and updating.  I appreciate you taking the time to look at it though.  I am going to look at some of these third party user registrations to see if they get around the issue and some others I am having with the user registration which are as follows:

  1. The Question and Answer aren't indicated as required even though they are.  aka no *
  2. The error message displayed during user registration indicating a field is required doesn't use the "friendly" name of the propety instead it uses the profile propery key.  So if you have a profile named Star_Wars_Fan_Club_ID and then you have a friendly name of "Star Wars Fan Club ID" the error message will show Star_Wars_Fan_Club_ID is required.

You might consider logging these as bugs in the Gemini database at http://support.dotnetnuke.com.  I know that there are some improvements to the Q/A system with 5.0, but these might have slipped through the cracks.
