Hi,

I am new to DNN and need a word of advise on what to keep in version control system and how to deploy files from one server to another. I am using Vista with IIS 7.0, DNN 4.9, SQL Server Express and CVS.

I placed all DNN files into "C:\dnn" directory and setup a web site in my IIS 7.0 ("C:\dnn" is my site's physical path). I installed DNN using SQL Server Express and everything is seems to be working great. I played around with DNN, created a new portal, adjusted setting, etc. Now I want to know how other developers can checkout the same configuration on their local machines and see exactly what I see on my computer. Basically, I need to know what folders/files inside my "C:\dnn" folder should be saved in CVS and what to do with changes that have been written to database. Do I need to manually backup the whole database and check it into my version control system or only part of it, or can this process be automated? I also wanted to know how should I deploy code from one environment to another (ex. from staging to production environment). Do I need to omit all content tables when I am moving my database tables to production since I don't want content created in production to be overwritten by content from staging environment? Is there any tools or modules that can help me with all these?

Please advise or at least point to the right direction.
