Hello, I have been looking for a solution for this for a while.  In order to be able to post to the forum users have to be able to edit the module.  In the current version of DotNetNuke I am using (4.00.02) there was a feature added that allows anyone with the ability to edit a module to be able to change the title on the page without having to go to the module settings page.

The problem is that now instead of just people with page editing abilities being able to edit the forum module title, every registered user on my site that can post to the forum can change the title.

I tried disabling the container so the title does not show up but then users loose access to the 'My Settings', 'My Posts', and 'Search' buttons for some reason.  This is not a very good solution for me and I would prefer to have the module title show on the page as it normally would but not allow users who don't have page edit permission to change the title.  I posted about this issue in the 'Configure It' forum but no one seemed to have a solution.  Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

You could try creating a container without a module title...

cheers,

Yes, that is one of the solutions I have considered.  If I want a title I would have to add an html module above the forum module.  It's not an ideal solution but it would work.

The best solution would be to disable the ability to edit the module title on the page.  It doesn't make sense to provide that feature given that there are quite a few modules that you need to provide users with edit permissions in order for them to be able to fully use them.  There should be a way to turn this feature off as in this case it proves to be more of a problem then a convenience.

Alright, I did some more digging around in my dotnetnuke folder and I found the file for the title user control.  The ascx file for the title within the module is located at admin\Containers\title.ascx.  In the file there is a dnn:DNNLabelEdit user control that makes the title editable by users that have edit permission for the module.  The last paramater listed for the user control is EditEnabled="true", simply change it to false and users who can post to the forum or edit any other module can no longer change the title of those modules.

None of the module titles on the site will be editable unless you have page edit permissions and change the title through the module settings page.  Though it is somewhat inconvenient, I would prefer that users who are allowed to contribute content within certain modules on the web site not be allowed to change the title of those modules.

This is an issue which is somewhat out of my control. I don't disagree with you but I am not going to change the secuirty model of the module around for this. From reading your posts, however, I think we both agree its the core or the web controls that should change here. Honsestly, I just don't think anyone thought much about this side effect. My advice for now is to change the container to have no title. Considering the way the forums are built, you don't need one.
