I have tried many things and just had a chance to review these videos, as I started developing my own module. Unfortunately, they assume you own and use CodeSmith, which I don't. I am having problems with my module implementation and the PDF I found on here doesn't help much either (it actually skips the part where I am stuck). Is there another site you know of where I can get more information?

I would recommend using myGeneration and the ATGenSDK tool for DNN.  They are really easy to set up and start using right away and will teach you a lot about developing modules for DNN at the same time.
