If you're here in the United States, today is the day to get out and vote. Do your civic duty and help to shape the direction of our ever changing country.

<politcal propaganda begins here>

On my recent trip overseas I had a few people ask me who I was voting for, and they were shocked when I said John McCain. I'm a republican through and through, the son of a Colonel in the United States Air Force I've always been and will most likely always be a Republican. While I don't always follow the party line on some of the most controversial topics I will believe the Republican party is the best choice for the long term success of this Nation.

Get out and vote for John McCain!

Chris,

Great thread!  I had to get up early today (for once) and cancel out my wife's vote here in Indiana (which apparently actually is going to impact the election).

This summer, while in Europe, people were rocking for Obama, at the time they really didn't even know McCain's name (mid-June).   It was certainly an interesting perspective on the U.S. politics and how they are considered worldwide.

Anyway, here is a tip if you want to know who is going to win, without stayng up all night (like I will be, regardless of my great tip).

There is a county in Indiana named Vigo (Home of Terre Haute, referred to by Steve Martin as the arm pit of America).  For the last 100 years whomever wins the presidency in the county has won it for the country.   Indiana polls close at both 6 and 7 Eastern (time zones) so you we should know the results of Vigo fairly early.

VOTE TODAY!

Stuart

AFAIK understand US politics, even Obama's views (which are considered left-wing inside the USA) are still pretty much to the right in most European countries (at least in The Netherlands). Also.. . Europeans don't have to pay the extra taxes Obama is planning for ;)

In the end, I'd settle for a president that has at least a few more brain cells than the current one... either candidate seems to fit that bill.

 I think a few more brain cells is an understatement;) I am McCain all the way, I don't want to kill all the opportunity the American dream has to offer by taxing productivity and success.  Either way it will be an extremely interesting next 12 hours or so.

Chris - I hope your "party" does well for you. I vote for a person rather than a party. And I won't be voting for either of the corporate owned party candidates.

Stuart - Don't know why Steve Martin titled Terre Haute what he did when Gary clearly owns that position for the state (and for the nation for many years). But many Ohio cities have overtaken Gary for that title in the nation. The Miliken Institute just ranked Gary two spots ahead of Dayton in economic potential. Not surprising, considering what's going on in Dayton right now - makes the old wild west look like child's play. Pretty sad for the city that still owns more patents than any other city in the nation.

I too, while traveling in Europe, was surprised at how interested the people were in our elections and government processes in general. I just hope that the folks in other nations understand that a large portion of American people don't agree with all of the "sticking our noses in other people's business" that our government partakes in.

Greg
