Unlikely paid people would help in the progress of open source modules, I would hope though that there would be a service internal infrustructure improvement, but that is unlikely to happen overnight.

Besides, if person X gets paid, then person Y would want to be paid as well if they are doing similar roles Just because the corp got sponsored, I would suggest that they are still not "bundled in cash", but I suspect they have enough to get by and move forward the core platform along to the "next phase" (with that and their new paid platform/support plan).

Yes, this is tricky... but each project teams needs a strong motivator/team leader to drive the project forward... the question is what incentive to use... is it even worth doing?

Using the Maps module as an example (as I have just spent 2 days setting it up before realising that there's no support for it and all questions/bugs will remain unanswered - is it better to can the project and remove it from view to stop people wasting time on it or is it better to leave it up and hope it gets critical mass again one day when the right people have time to work on it?

If I had known what I did now I would have purchased a commercial version immediately and saved 2 days of work. Of course, I can't seem to get an answer from some of the commercial map developers which is also a little odd...

You could always find a core project that isn't supported as you think it should be and volunteer.  Or simply start supporting it in the forums.

At OpenForce Scott Wilhite said that they were going to really pay attention to Dotnetnuke.com this coming year and really delegate alot of the work out to the community.   I think this will make a big difference as we move forward.  I have emailed him and volunteered my time to help out.  I hope others do as well.

No, as I said in my initial post (the Disclaimer bit) I don't have time to volunteer (like the current project team). This is the whole point - the poject teams are not working due to people not having time and are therefore useless.

You'll notice that about 50% of my posts are helping others, but this is also not relevant to this conversation.
