Hi folks

I have started evaluating DNN 4.9 and layouts - I  see DNN likes to render stuff in tables eg PANES ( - I need to develop a site using a pure CSS approach with DIVS for layout. Is this possible in DNN  ? - I  am going to be given a number of templates from a design company who are going to provide pages that use CSS and DIVs only - will I be able to convert this into a workable SKIN file ?? Does anyone else have experience of doing this kind of stuff ?? Any help would be much appreciated

J

John,

This is defininetly possible, you just need to be very thorough in your CSS to make everything line up properly, but this isn't DNN specific, it's HTML specific when dealing with Divs.

As for help, I would simply begin by trying it out, don't be afraid to use some good CSS tools such as Firebug in Firefox to track down how things are working in your skins/pages.

you dont need panes to be tables

you can just as well do <div id="ContentPane" runat="server"

Hi,

go have a look at dnncreative.com there is an excellent tutorial on how to make a pure css skin using divs, exactly what you require.  The tutorial is great, and to the point.  Since watching their tutorials, I have done all my skins the way they do it, it is by far the best process out there.

I'm actually not sure why so many diehard people on Pure CSS.

IMHO, using div in the wrong way will just waste more time on page rendering. A combination of table and div is the best approach.

try view page source on Google.com, there are using TABLE!

1. Use Div for repeated content.

2. Use Table for Main Structure.

Thanks,
George
