I upgraded the Events module.  I'm on DNN 4.8.4.  I am on Events 4.0.2 now, upgraded from 3.1.0.

All the modules are still there, but they are empty... no events.  What did I do wrong?  Or was this to be expected?  Can I recover?!??!

thanks for your help!!

Hi Sharlyn,

I doubt your data is gone, just to start...

However, whilst we have done significant testing of upgrades from 3.3.8 to 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, we have not tested from 3.1.0 all the way through. There could potentially be a step somewhere between 3.1.0 and 3.3.8 which has 'lost' your data.

Did you perform a back-up of your site prior to the upgrade, and can you go back to that backup? That would be my first step. If so, I would probably then do a step by step upgrade going through the version from 3.1.0 up to 3.3.8. If not, you may someone with some SQL expertise to see where the problem is. Dave Colbeck had a similar problem, which he wrote a script for - shown here. You can try using the script from the Host/SQL page. However, I really suggest you take a backup of your site first.

Shout if you need some more help. I'm away on holiday for a few days from Saturday. But if you haven't got it fixed by the time I get back, I'll give you a hand to sort it out.

Cheers
Roger

Thank you for the reply!  I assume the data is in the db as well... not really gone, but not showing in the modules right now.

I did the upgrade Monday morning, so I have Sunday nights backup.  Problem is, we have 26+ sites that would lose everything from the past three days if I restored.  I don't think I can do that without making a lot of people really mad at me!!!  :)  So I may need some idea on how to restore the events from the db.  What would happen if they are doing into their existing modules and re- entering events and then if we try and restore there are duplicates/overlapping stuff potentially in calendars that don't allow overlapping events?

I'll check out Dave's script in the meantime, but I have a feeling I may be waiting until you get back to do anything!

Hi Sharlyn,

May make for an interesting challenge.... Earliest I'll get to this is about 15th. Ping me on webmaster@ the domain in my profile, and we can do this offline.

Roger

Sharlyn,

Did you import the categories, locations and events into the new module?  If you did, have a look at the table in the database to check out the start and end dates.  I would also restore the backup locally to do some testing on just to be sure.  And then backup before the script is run :)

Cheers
