Alright, my setup:
- location: http://localhost/DotNetNuke/
WinXP Pro
- IIS 5.1
- ASP.NET v2.0
- Database -- Remote SQL Server 2000 Database
I installed to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DNN\ and created a virtual directory "DotNetNuke".
I moved SiteUrls.config to the right folder
I edited the connection string so that it was using the one for SQL 2000 and inserted a connection string for a database that I know to be good.
Still, I get this error:
Error Installing DotNetNuke

I have read both of the installation instructions but have not been able to come up with much as a result (really, there has to be a good technical writer out there who could contribute to the project in this way at some point...I hope)
I know that I am new to this, but I do have technical knowledge and would love to answer your questions (however simple they might seem) so that I might get this up and running. I would be happy to post web.config file & any other files (edited, of course) at your request. thanks!

Might want to post your connection string in the web.config. Changing stuff that will identify your machine of course.
But I did notice that the error being given is stating
When connecting to SQL Server 2005
And you have stated that you are using 2000. So I would guess something is up with the connection string.

Right, that's what I was thinking, too, something along those lines. I'm going to try to paste all the parts of the web.config that matter (may be a little long, sorry all):
<connectionStrings> <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=SNOW.HOSTMYSITE.NET;Database=interfall;user=*****;password=*****;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> <appSettings> <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=SNOW.HOSTMYSITE.NET;Database=interfall;user=*;password=*;"/>
it is important to note that previously, i was using uid and pwd instead of user and password, but when that didn't work i copied a connection string from one of my other projects that did.
the other thing that I changed was that I deleted the parts for SQL server 2005. I doubt that's an issue since i'm not using it.
Any ideas now? I'll paste whatever else you need, but that's all i changed.
