Quite a conversation I'm having here.

I have restarted the webserver box and notice on my first attempt at accessing the host settings menu item I'm getting a security error message with the site's certificate.  It looks like the host settings menu must run in ssl and I havn't minted a certificate for my dnn instance.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The issues you are having are more to do with IIS then DNN and look quite complex. So I guess that's why you are not getting much feedback in this forum, you might try Microsoft's IIS forums - sorry.

Unless somebody else can help you...

Restored 4.08.02 - all is back.  Not sure what's up with 5 but this has been educational and therapeutic talking to myself.

You might try 5.0.1 when it's out, there were some issues with portal aliases in DNN5.

OK, I took drastic measures this past weekend.  I backed up all websites, formatted and installed Windows 2008 w/IIS7 and then copied back my DNN site only.  I'm running the site in it's own AppPool as well.  Tried doing the DNN upgrade to 5.0 and again it failed even with it being the only site on the server.  I don't think I have an IIS problem - I strongly feel that there is something corrupt with our v4.8 version but it runs just fine as 4.8.

I'm to the point where I'm ready to create a Native 5.0 instance with a fresh database, then export/import all pages to the native 5.0 instance and then blow away the old.  Does anyone have any ideas prior to this.  This will take me a good week probably since I have a couple portals with many pages in each.

Are there known issues with multiple DNN instances running on the same server?

Are there AppPool settings that are recommended for DNN installs?
