Hello everyone,
Im looking for some opinions on deploying DNN 5.0.  My current plan of action is to install 4.9 with .Net 3.5 framework. Once 5.0 is considered stable, or at least version 5.01, go ahead and do an update. Im fairly confident this will work, but im not sure about how installed modules will transition (if at all). I havnt been around the community for very long and this is my first transition to a new major version. I did however do a trial upgrade locally, and everything seemed to go pretty smooth except for the default skin seemed to get a little funky. Any suggestions or opions about how to go about deploying version 5.0?

your plan sounds reasonable, of course, you should check with 3rd party developers/vendors for available upgrades with DNN5 compatibility.

Hello Sebastian,
Thank you for your confirmation and prompt reply. I will plan on going this route then.

 Hey Matt,

I think that will work fine, however, as you mentioned, I'd recommend waiting at least till 5.0.1.  My guess is that 5.0.1 will be pretty solid, but usually we wait a week or two before recommending that our customers upgrade.

The most important advice I can give you regarding upgrading is DO A BACKUP.  :)  Make sure you have a backup of your website and a backup of your database that way if something breaks during teh ugprade process, you can always roll back.

Tony,
Thanks so much.  I will definatally add backup to the list of to-dos before upgrading. I cant even imagine how bad it would be to loose a customers site! Thanks again.
