I'd just finished adding a new entry to my blog (http://www.NeenahPolitics.com) and the home page had updated with the latest entry.  The entry has no description, so there are a few paragraphs from the blog entry that appear on the home page.

I thought I'd try the Read More link to see how the entry looked in the flesh.  I got a 404 Page cannot be found error, and this was in the address bar (IE 7):

http://www.neenahpolitics.com/Home/tabid/%20...%3C/span%3E%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%3Ca%20id=

I went into SQL Server Management Studio and brought up the raw data from the dnn_Blog_Entries table and saw this:

http://www.neenahpolitics.com/Default.aspx?tabid=171&EntryID=109

...which I could copy and paste into the address bar to see the blog entry in all its splendor.

Anyone have an idea of what's going on here?  The DNN version is 4.8.2.  The Blog version is 3.4.  The database is SQL Server 2000.

 Sincerely,

Hi Steve,

my understanding is that the auto-generation of the summary failed truncating the hyperlinks in your entry. Try manually adding a summary, or add some text in the entry body so that automatic truncation doesn't occur in the middle of the hyperlinks.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Dario,

Your solution worked.  I put in a summary of just three or four words and the "Read More" link operated properly.  Just to confirm the behavior, I set the Description field to NULL in the dnn_Blog_Entries table once more...and, sure enough, the "Read More" link was munged.

So, to make this blog entry look like the rest -- that is, instead of a seeing a brief summary, visitors see the first portions of the actual entries on the blog home page with a "Read More" link -- I copied and pasted the first three paragraphs into the summary.  Now the home page summary contains most of what the auto-generated summary contained, but the "Read More" link operates properly.

Thank you.

Hi Steve,

the summary auto-generating algoritm has been quite enhanced in the last version, but may not be perfect yet.

Dario,

I'm glad to have such a simple work-around.

Grazie!
