Mike:

I pulled my head out of my rear after lunch today and realized that on that particular portal I could disable the default authentication provider, leaving only the ADSI provider. I can now login via https and redirect back out to a non-encyrpted page.

This leaves me with a new question, though: if, for some reason, our AD server explodes and I absolutely need to login to the portal how easy/difficult is it to reenable the default provider via direct SQL queries?

I don't know of a way to do it except for direct SQL changes (if the site is blown up that is).

Is it as simple as changing an item from 0 to 1, though? Or does it involve a SQL script of some sort?

As simple as a 0 to a 1 (or a False to a True). When you set the DNN login to disabled (uncheck the box) it should write to the ModuleSettings table (in DNN 4, PortalSettings in DNN5). If you look in that table you should fine a setting called DNN_Enabled and right now with it unchecked it should say 0 or False (depends on what version of SQL you're running).

Mike:

You are a gentleman and a scholar.  Thanks for all the help.  This worked perfectly.
