I currently have a 2.x (pre 2.1.2 I think) version running but I'm planning on pushing 4.0.2 onto the site. There aren't a lot of 3rd party modules or work done on the site. Would I be better off trashing the site and starting from scratch? My gut says start from scratch.

thanks
Mike

You want my honest opinion?  If you had place to do a backup, then try it, you could give it a go, but I don't think there is an official upgrade path set yet from DNN 2>> DNN4.

Your third party modules - you'd need to check they work in DNN4.

For me, I ended up redoing my DNN3.22 site from DNN2 as I tried for about 2 weeks to get it to work, but admittedly, I had some mods to the core tabs that interfered with the sql scripts from firing.

Depending on how much information you have in there, along with your time frame, sometimes a new slate is quicker to work with than trying to upgrade.

Just my opinion from someone who's done it in Feb and the whole experience was quite horrible, but I did have some self inflicted changes which I promised I will NEVER do again.

Your guy is correct in my opinion.

Thanks Nina,

I spent some time setting up the 3rd party mods, but not that much. The site is mostly used for announcements and current events for a club, it doesn't get that much traffic.

thanks again.
Mike

You could try an upgrade to at least allow you to export the contents of your modules. But if there is'nt that much there I would scrub it and start from scratch, for a small site it will probably take less time.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I have the same issue.  However, the site I am needing to upgrade has a LOT of data (not cutom or third party modules that are needed). In addition, I can't remeber if the current installation is 2.x or 3.x...if there a quick way to tell?
