sorry, but which error message do you encounter? is there an entry in windows event log? any other hint, what has been changed before the site started to fail?

Error messages not showing up correctly making it very difficult to troubleshoot why it is not installing. The error that shows up is the error message concerning the Off setting which is set correctly. It seems to be failing very early in the install process, I am doing a fresh install of my dnn website that was working, I have had the permissions reset for DNN.

I uploaded DNN 491 and it installed successfully using same web.config. I still need to know why my sites bloat to beyond 500 mb after six months which is why I must reinstall and since I cannot backup database I lose my members. I need answers or I will have to start using Expression suite and build myself.

Hi Stephan - It would be helpful if you could break this down a bit. You initially stated that you are not receiving error messages even though your setup is correct.  If your setup is correct, then why would you receive error messages.  Are you saying that you cannot setup DNN after having perceived that you have setup the site correctly, and are receiving error messages which are not helpful?  A play-by-play process on what you have and are trying to do would be a huge help.

With respect to site bloat are you referring to the size of the database, website, or both?  How are you storing your cache, to file or to the database?  Could you be caching too much?  Logged in as host you can check some of these settings under the Host > Settings section.  Also, restart the application if needed.  If you are having trouble managing your user accounts there is an excellent import/export tool called BulkReg which you can get at snowcovered.com.  This module is very easy to setup and you can backup your user's information, including their password, which would resolve this concern.

Happy to help if you don't mind breaking down the issues you are having.  It would be a shame to lose you after all the time you have invested with this technology, and I believe these are resolvable issues.  Hang in there...!  It's IT so its supposed to suck every now and again...

John
