Thanks Bob, I just got the mail. The image is shown full text, white the base argument is empty - strange. Please describe, how you created the mail in detail.

The file link does fail, because it is using LinkClick.aspx http handler - which is not supposed to work in emails. I will have a look at it, but please always  use absolute URLs when linking to files. I will try to improve the mail module in a future version, to replace it for files in non-secured folders.

I created the mail by going to Newsletters and using the rich text editor.  I then clicked on the button in the toolbar for insert/edit image.  A pop-up window appeared asking for the URL for the image.  I clicked on Browse Server and selected an image from the root folder, then told it OK . It shows the image in the editor and it shows it in the preview, but when it was sent, it didn't show it.  But now it does.  I just thought maybe there was a refresh issue that hadn't happened and now it does work.

When I insert a file I click the insert/edit file button.  Pop-up window appears.  I tell it I want to use a local file and then tell it which file.  It loads the URL info and it's the same trunicated style that it shows when embedding an image.  It sends it, but like you said, it doesn't work.  You can click on it and it attempts to use the trunicated path to get the file, but of course that isn't going to work.

In researching this ahead of this through the forums I did notice that there were some other users that had this problem.  There wasn't a clear answer to fix it other than to manually enter the URL.  That works, but as I said in the original post, I will be letting other users do this and the extra steps involved will cause a problem...they're just not that tech savvy.

If there is some kind of workaround to this I'd be happy to use it.  As it stands now the embedded image works, but the embedded link to a file on the server doesn't.

Thanks for everything!

there might be a difference, whether the tracking option is turned on, but I agree, that this should be easier. ATM there is no workaround, I will try to find time to improve this for DNN 5.1.

Would you be so kind and enter this enhancement into the public issue tracker (2nd from top) at support.dotnetnuke.com, including a link to this thread.

On the FCKrich text editor try going to:

Show Custom Editor Options > Other Editor Options > Full Image Path ( select it )

This worked for me, but I'm using DNN 5.01

Take care

I would like to also suggest a version of this module for Host usage (where Subscribers includes all portals, etc.)

I was trying to use it this way and coming up with all kinds of failures and limitations. The string of email addresses must ONLY be seperated by ";" semicolons because it can't handle CRLF at all. I sent out to a list of 100 users and all but two failed.
