I am trying to upgrade a company website from 4.9.0 to 4.9.3. I have done a few upgrades before in the usual fashion of extratcing the upgrade ZIP to merge the new files over the existing set and updating release.config with my appropriate web.config non ported settings etc. and all workd ok.

In the current case however, I do the same (I have tried this locally on my PC and remotely at an ISP) and although the upgrade screen indiactes success (see below), when I click to access my Portal... the website just hangs and hangs/sticks leaving the upgrade screen below in place and the URL : http://www.sentraserviceconsole.co.uk/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade....

(just for the record, going from 4.9.0 to 5.0.1 does the same also or even going to just 4.9.1). Has anybody got any ideas why this might be. I have tried such things as closing the browser and re-opening and re-accessing the URL. I have also tried to re-boot my machine, no luck. Clearing down Cache etc. Still no access. Not updating web.config and letting DNN do it.

It just seems to be stuck.....it doesn't even timeout even as I am typing this email, the screen is still attempting to access the above URL with a full green bar on the status toolbar and no movement. Any help here would be greatly appreciated......

Thanks in advance, MARK.

Hi Sebastian. Thanks for the post..I regressed the link above to 4.9.0 to recover it. The problem is still present....this one has me stumped....if I didn't know any better...I would say it is looping......it doesn't timeout at least, it just hangs there. I have not found anything on the internet to resolve the problem. I might be stuck on 4.9.0 for quite a while unless I can get past this problem. Any ideas?

Mark,

AFAIR all "loopings" of portal upgrades so far were caused by missing permissions after unzipping the files. make sure, the ASP.NEt account has full file system permission to all files.

I restored 4.9.0 to a clean working state. Re-applied 4.9.3 upgrade (left web.config to DNN). Checked my website folders security and the ASP.NET account has full access (is there something else to check here below the main folder (in my case, itldnn is the website folder name I checked the security of). Just for fun, I applied no-readonly to the folder and sub folders.

Went to localhost/itldnn and upgrade works ok. I click to access my Portal but the same thing happens....a full, green status bar at the bottom if IE which appears to flckr occasionally....(still doing it as I write this mail). What could be wrong........?
