Hello.

I'm still unsure about what a module is.  I installed the DNN 4.9.3 Install version.  When i run it, the home page displays the big DNN logo in red and next to it says "DotNetNuke is the ideal platform for building professional websites" etc.

Is that a module that contains that image and text?  When i click the edit radio button in the control panel, it outlines the whole page from just below the breadcrumb down to the HOME link.

Also, when i click the edit radio button, it shows LeftPane, ContentPane and RightPane between the breadcrumb and the DNN logo.  If i simply scroll down to the bottom of the page and scroll back up again, it shows TopPane, LeftPane, ContentPane, RightPane and BottomPane between the breadcrumb and the DNN logo.  What are the panes?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

Tony,

In general, a module is a piece of content, you can place on a page, whereas the module type defined, which content maybe contained and how it is structured. The Text/HTML module can cover a whole page, as it nearly does in "DotNetNuke Community Edittion" on the start page, but "Getting Started" and "Sponsors" are separate Text/HTML modules as well. You can add your own content by picking a module from the dropdownlist in the control panel at the top (after expanding it), and place it on the page. The page has a number of regions, called panes, where modules can be stacked, the number of panes is determined by the page skin. The default skin has 5 regions (top, left, content, right, bottom panes). In Edit or design modue, you maygrab the module at the title to drag it to another position or use the move command in the action menu (see the little triangle in front of the module title.

OK, so it looks like the DNN logo, Getting Started and Sponsors are seperate modules in the BottomPane of the Home page.  Right?

Are the "DotNetNuke is the ideal...", "New to DotNetNuke?", Take DotNetNuke to the next level", Community, Marketplace, Conferences, Training, Syndicated Feeds all different modules or are they one big module?  There is only one Edit Text for all that content.

Thanks,
Tony

All you see in the editor is belonging to the module - unfortunately, the default home page uses a number of background images, which are not displayed in the editor.

Each module can be identified in edit mode by the little triangle.

I'm not sure of what you mean by "background images are not displayed in the editor".  When i edit that module, it shows all of the graphics, links, text, colors, etc.  It looks exactly like the view mode except that the content wraps to show in the small editor screen.
