I am trying to create a new portal on a VM running Windows Server 2003.  I followed all of the instructions and created the database on a SQL Server 2005 machine with a new db owner and put that owners login and pwd in the web.config file.  When I run the http://localhost/sitename/install/install.aspx nothing happens.  It just goes strait to the 404 error page - cannot be found.  the Install instructions that I followed were from Mitchelsellers blog with the only changes being SQL is not on the same server and the site name.

Does anyone have a solid checklist that I can go through or any helpful hints.  Could it be some kind of permissions issue?

I was new to dotnetnuke until last week and set up my local dnn install without problems thanks to following:

http://seablick.com/blog/71/a-newbies-guide-to-installing-dotnetnuke.aspx
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/miscctrl/dotnetnuke.aspx

Also, it probably has nothing to do with it but I always simply use http://localhost/sitename for installing.

I got my install to work finally.  My problem was that in IIS -  Web Service Extensions ASP.NET extensions were being blocked.  Mitch Sellers blog did mention this but I did not catch it the first time though or realize where they were being blocked.

So if you have having problems installing DNN on Windows Server 2003 look in IIS under the Web Sites folder.  Click on ASP.NET and then click on 'Allow'.  I am glad that it was something minor, but frustrated that it took me so long to figure out.
