OK, so here's the problem (and the solution)... If you are running DNN 5 on a server with .NET 3.5 installed AND if you went to Host > Host Settings > .NET Framework and clicked "Update Site to current Framework", this updates everything to .NET 3.5 and removes "system.web.extensions.dll" from the DNN "bin" folder (since it is built into .NET 3.5).

Then you upgrade from DNN 5.0.0 to 5.0.1 by unzipping the Upgrade .zip file and guess what!?! This puts "system.web.extensions.dll" back into the DNN "bin" folder! This is the source of the problem.

The solution in this case is simply to delete "system.web.extensions.dll" from the DNN "bin" folder again.

I have logged this in the DNN Gemini bug database as Site upgraded to 05.00.01 from 05.00.00 site with .NET 3.5 framework won't start (Issue ID: DNNP-9824).

5.1.0 is supposed to handle this more gracefully.
